Who Can Benefit From CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting may be an option for adults who have areas of unwanted, pinchable fat they would like to reduce without surgery.

There is no single body type that defines a CoolSculpting candidate. People have different body shapes, different amounts of fat and different goals. What matters is whether the area you want to change contains fat that CoolSculpting can treat and whether the treatment can realistically help you achieve the change you are looking for.

Do I Have to Be at My Ideal Weight?

No. You do not have to be at an “ideal weight” or fit a particular body type simply to be evaluated for CoolSculpting.

CoolSculpting is not a weight-loss treatment, but that does not mean treatment is limited only to very thin people or those who are close to a specific number on the scale.

Candidacy is better determined by your anatomy, the area you would like to improve, the type of fat present and the change you hope to achieve.

What Kind of Fat Can CoolSculpting Treat?

CoolSculpting is designed to treat subcutaneous fat—the fat located beneath the skin that you can often pinch.

Not every area of fullness is caused by fat that CoolSculpting can treat. Body structure, skin, muscle and deeper fat can all influence the appearance of an area.

Determining what is actually creating the concern is an important part of deciding whether CoolSculpting is appropriate for that area.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE

What Areas Can CoolSculpting Treat?

CoolSculpting can be used to treat unwanted fat in several areas of the body, including the abdomen, flanks or love handles, thighs, upper arms, back and bra area, underneath the buttocks, and beneath the chin and jawline.

Which areas are appropriate for treatment depends on your individual anatomy.

Who May Not Be a Good Candidate?

CoolSculpting is not appropriate for everyone.

Certain medical conditions may make treatment inappropriate. In other cases, the area someone wants to change may not contain the type of fat CoolSculpting is designed to treat, or CoolSculpting may simply not be capable of producing the change that person wants.

Being a good candidate is therefore not determined simply by your weight or size. The more important question is whether CoolSculpting can safely and realistically address the specific concern you want to improve.

Realistic Expectations Matter

A good CoolSculpting candidate understands that the treatment is designed to reduce unwanted fat and improve the contour of a specific area, not produce overall weight loss or completely change someone's body.

Two people treating the same area can have very different anatomy and very different goals. What represents a meaningful improvement for one person may be different for another.

Understanding what CoolSculpting can—and cannot—accomplish is an important part of determining whether it is the right treatment for you.
